The final buzzer rang on Wednesday night and a Robert Key-led team started the Oregon high school basketball season 1-0.

But while many are used to hearing Key’s name associated with Oregon’s top Class 6A basketball teams, this year is a little different.

On Wednesday night, Key led the Gladstone boys basketball team to a 68-56 home victory over North Marion. And while the gym didn’t include all of the pomp and circumstance of some of the state’s biggest schools, Wednesday was a huge night for the Portland basketball legend.

“It feels good, man,” Key said after the game. “It feels different and rewarding.”
