LOS ANGELES – A 17-year-old was killed in an accident involving fireworks in the South Los Angeles neighborhood of Vermont Knolls.

Los Angeles Police Department officers responded around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 400 block of W. 84th Street west of the Harbor (110) Freeway, where they found the victim, according to an LAPD spokesman.

The teenager was taken to a hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. He had severe injuries, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the cause of the victim’s death resulted from the explosion of a possible homemade firework.

The LAPD Bomb Squad was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the accident, NBC 4 reported.
