In a major relief for commuters heading to Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Mohali’s new alternative link road being developed to ease pressure on the existing Airport Road is nearing completion. According to GMADA officials, one side of the road will be opened to traffic by the end of this month while the entire stretch is expected to be fully operational by March 31, 2026.
The new 8.5-km parallel link road, stretching from Bawa White House crossing to Airport Crossing, is designed to reduce congestion on the main Airport Road. Only two components remain unfinished: the double-lane underpass beneath the railway line and a bridge at the N-choe. The proposal for the reinforced concrete box passage has already been sent to the Railways, and funds have been allocated.
