Steven Lee “Steve” Cropper, famed guitarist with the Blues Brothers and Booker T. & the MG’s, has died. He was 84.
Pat Mitchell Worley, president and CEO of the Soulsville Foundation, was notified of the musician’s death by his family, according to the Associated Press .
He died Wednesday in Nashville, she said.
The Soulsville foundation operates at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music in Memphis, which Stax Records once called home and where Cropper worked as a record producer.
A cause of death for Cropper has not been revealed.
However, Cropper’s longtime friend Eddie Gore told the AP that the musician recently suffered a fall and was in a rehabilitation facility.
Gore visited his pal on Tuesday, noting that Cropper had been working on new music at the time.
