An NHS GP has warned that "fit to do things" letters could become obsolete following reports that a student suffered a broken neck after receiving medical clearance from her doctor to participate in a skydiving activity.

Dr Tim Mercer has now explained how the incident is expected to have far-reaching consequences after paralysed Miriam Barker disclosed she is pursuing £15 million in damages. The 21-year old, who was studying history and philosophy at Southampton University, became a member of the Skydiving Society in 2018 and received approval to make her first jump in Devon.
