A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck near Dayton, Nevada, on Thursday morning, according to an automatic report from the EW seismic catalog.

The quake was recorded at 8:04 a.m. PT at a depth of about 8 kilometers, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The preliminary reading carried an uncertainty of ±0.3 magnitude units and was detected by five stations. No scientist reviewed data or phase readings were immediately available.
