WASHINGTON — Shredded cheese sold in 31 states has been recalled due to the potential it is contaminated with metal fragments.
So far, neither the company who produced the cheese, Great Lake Cheese Co., or the FDA have publicly disclosed any injuries caused by the metal fragments. But the U.S. Food and Drug Administration classified the recall on Dec. 1 as Class II , its second-most serious classification .
Though the probability of serious harm is relatively low, consuming metal fragments could pose choking hazards or cause injury to the mouth, throat, or digestive system.
What shredded cheese has been recalled?
The recall includes various shredded cheese products, including mozzarella, Italian-style blends, and pizza-style cheese blends. Products range from 8-ounce to 32-ounce
