NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred shortly after midnight Thursday.

Officers responded around 12:31 a.m. to the 5600 block of Lowery Road for a report of a crash involving a Honda SUV. The 77-year-old driver, John Paul Manning of Fayetteville, North Carolina, was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary findings indicate that neither speed nor alcohol is believed to have been a factor. Investigators say Manning may have experienced a medical event before the crash.

The driver’s identity will be released following notification of the next of kin. The crash is under investigation.
