MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - On this day, Dec. 4, 1867, the National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry, also called the National Grange, was founded.
The Grange is the oldest American agricultural advocacy group, which spans the entire country.
It was created by a group of seven men following the Civil War to create a community among farmers and advocate for policies that would continue to benefit the agricultural industry.
They have a branch in La Prairie called La Prairie Grange Hall.
The Wisconsin branch was organized in February of 1873, and the hall was built the following year.
The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
The Grange still remains active today.
