The next leader of Samford's football program has been announced.

In a statement, the university said coaching veteran John Grass has been named the team's 37th head football coach.

Grass comes to the school with years of experience at the high school level in Alabama, including stops at Hoover, Spain Park and Oxford. Samford said he spent the last few seasons on staff at Clemson University in South Carolina, following a head coaching stint at Jacksonville State University, where he posted a 72-26 record and won multiple Ohio Valley Conference championships.
