Tips to prevent holiday package theft; steps to take if theft occurs

Don't fall victim to porch pirates this holiday season.

Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough is part of a nationwide effort coordinated by the National Sheriff’s Association . Police departments are partnering with Amazon to help residents protect their packages from theft.

"While this is not a unique issue to Amazon, package theft continues to be a concern in our community as more people shop online than ever before," Goodnough said in a news release. “Package theft not only impacts our residents during what should be a joyful season, but it also strains our limited law enforcement resources. When our community members take simple precautions to protect their deliveries, they are helping us direct our deputies’ time and attention to more serious emergency situations.”
