Most New York Giants players will be using their Week 14 bye as time to rest and recuperate. One of the team's quarterbacks is getting back to work – though not on the field or in the weight room.

Giants veteran quarterback Russell Wilson is joining CBS Sports' weekly NFL coverage show, "The NFL Today," as a guest analyst on Sunday, Dec. 7, the network announced on Dec. 4. CBS Sports' Bryan DeArdo wrote that Wilson will also take part in NFL Today+ and the "NFL Today" pregame show.

Wilson, 37, signed a one-year, $10.5 million deal with New York in the offseason and began the 2025 season as the Giants' starter. After an 0-3 start to the season, the Giants benched the 14-year veteran in favor of rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart.

New York continued to roll with Dart as the starter and Wilson as his backup until Week 11, after Wilson appeared briefly at the end of the Giants' Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears. The team fired head coach Brian Daboll after that game, and interim head coach Mike Kafka – formerly the offensive coordinator – moved Wilson down to the third-string spot behind fellow veteran free-agent signing Jameis Winston.

USA TODAY Sports' Tyler Dragon speculated at the time that the move could indicate an end to Wilson's career as a starting quarterback.

The Giants are Wilson's third team in three years – he played for the Denver Broncos in 2023, then the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024 – and fourth in the last five. As a starter, the 14-year veteran is 17-27 in the four years since leaving the Seattle Seahawks.

Wilson set new career-low marks in completion rate (58%), passer rating (77.4) and yards per game (138.5) this season in six games (three starts).

The veteran quarterback has said his goal is to continue his on-field career in 2026.

"I still want to keep playing football," Wilson said ahead of Week 11. "I know what I’m capable of. I know how great I am. I know what I've done."

Prior to his time with the Giants, Wilson was a 10-time Pro Bowler, NFL passing touchdowns leader in 2017 and Super Bowl 48 champion with the Seahawks.
