It’s the end of an era.
December is the last month for MetroCards before New York City’s public transit system is taken over by OMNY .
With the big change quickly approaching, it’s time for New Yorkers to transfer their MetroCard balance to OMNY while they still can.
The Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) has switched out its mobile sale vehicles originally used for MetroCard assistance to now help commuters transfer their balances and learn more about the new tap-and-ride system.
MetroCard balances can be transferred up until their expiration date, which can be found on the upper left corner of the card — but the MTA strongly advises spending or transferring the balance before the MetroCard expires.
Commuters have until Dec. 31 to switch to an OMNY card to use all subway stations
