One of the candidates for the federal NDP leadership is in Newfoundland and Labrador to speak with provincial counterparts and supporters.
Former leader Jagmeet Singh stepped down after an abysmal result in the spring election – which saw the NDP win only seven seats across the country and lose its party status in the House of Commons.
Heather McPherson won her seat in Alberta, and now she is in the running to become the next leader.
As for the New Democrats, she believes there is “a lot of opportunity” for the party.
She says Prime Minister Mark Carney, who leads the Liberals, has “shown himself to be particularly conservative in his legislation and policies, and (his) budget.” She says now is the time for the NDP to consider what the future of the party looks like.)
