These days, smaller hardware stores are competing with larger hardware companies such as Home Depot and Lowe’s, which is a difficult task.
In fact, several smaller hardware businesses have closed this year due to stiff competition from the larger entities.
Another one that has just announced it is permanently closing is the Pennsylvania-based Howells Hardware Store, according to Central Penn Business Journal .
Located in Lancaster, the hardware store’s owner, Robert Howells, experienced health issues, which pushed him to shutter the business after more than 80 years in operation.
Though the business didn’t say that it was having financial difficulties, it has faced competition from a nearby Home Depot store (located on 1700-D Fruitville Pike) and two Lowe’s locations in the vicinit
