GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - On Thursday afternoon, a habitual offender was sentenced for a 2021 kidnapping and rape in Gulfport.
Circuit Court Judge Lisa Dodson ordered Sterling Wingo to serve 20 years in prison day-for-day.
Wingo received 20 years on the kidnapping charge and 10 years, to run concurrently, on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Judge Dodson sentenced Wingo as a habitual offender. That means he will serve the 20 years day-for-day without the possibility of early release or parole.
Wingo was initially also charged with sexual battery, but that charge was dropped as part of his plea agreement.
