With 18 seconds left in the first half, the last thing Justin Lamson wanted to do was take a sack.

Coming out of a timeout, the Montana State quarterback had an empty backfield on second-and-10 at the Weber State 23-yard line. Running back Adam Jones motioned across from Lamson’s left, and the QB initially looked Jones' way after the snap.

When he didn’t throw the ball, though, Weber defensive lineman Matt Herron burst through the middle to sack Lamson for a 7-yard loss.

MSU still got points to end the half — placekicker Myles Sansted knocked through the 48-yard field goal attempt — but Lamson knew the mistake he made by losing yards instead of throwing it away. Head coach Brent Vigen “got on me a little bit,” Lamson said.
