MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences (CDIS) will be reorganized into the College of Computing and Artificial Intelligence under a proposal approved by the UW Board of Regents Thursday.
The CDIS launched within the College of Letters & Science in 2019 and will now be spun off into a separate college beginning in July 2026. Planning for the new college will begin immediately.
"This will be about more than simply building a new academic unit," Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin said. "We will be shaping a future where UW–Madison leads in innovation while advancing knowledge for the common good."
UW leadership said the new college reflects an increase in demand for the work already being done within CDIS. Enrollment in computer scie
