The City of Champions had been notably devoid of trophies for a while.

But the eight-year drought for Pittsburgh’s pro sports teams ended when Riverhounds SC captured its first USL Championship title late last month — and on Thursday, the team shared its triumph with the city.

It wasn’t quite a parade, but Mayor Ed Gainey and Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato joined the Riverhounds and their fans Downtown for a lively celebration despite the sub-freezing temperatures.

“It’s just surreal,” Riverhounds owner Tuffy Shallenberger told the Post-Gazette. “This is something I’ve dreamt of. That was my vision from the beginning, and to be able to deliver for the city, it was a very special time.”
