The Belforest Elementary School assistant principal has been placed on administrative leave after being arrested for DUI for the second time in a year.

Daphne Police confirmed Melissa Spriggs was arrested on November 23 at 1:46 a.m.

An officer on patrol spotted her vehicle in the area of U.S. 98 and Santa Rosa Avenue. Police tell 1819 News the officer witnessed "careless driving" and stopped the vehicle.

After determining Spriggs was under the influence, police arrested her and booked her into the Daphne City Jail. She has since posted bond and has been released.

At the time of the arrest, Spriggs had just completed a year of probation, following a December 30, 2024 arrest for DUI.

Spriggs is considered innocent until proven guilty.
