A black bear has been found illegally shot dead in Concordia Parish, prompting an investigation from state wildlife agents and the offer of a reward for tips leading to a conviction.
Agents responded to a report of a dead bear off Blount Road in the Richard K. Yancy Wildlife Management Area in the eastern-central area of the state on Nov. 20. They located the adult male bear weighing about 375 pounds with a fatal gunshot wound, the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said.
The $3,500 reward includes $2,500 from the Safari Club International Acadiana Chapter and up to $1,000 from Louisiana Operation Game Thief, the department said.
