Panic gripped the Kenduadih area of Dhanbad after two women died within 24 hours in suspected gas leak in the area. The deceased have been identified as Priyanka Devi and Lalita Devi.
Locals claim that both deaths were caused by exposure to the gas, but district authorities say the exact cause will be known only after the post-mortem reports arrive.
Angry villagers blocked the Dhanbad–Ranchi highway, burning tyres and demanding that the administration immediately locate and stop the suspected gas leak. The protest lasted nearly four hours before officials managed to calm the crowd and reopen the road.
