In a major relief to commuters in Mumbai and its adjoining areas, two new sections of the Mumbai Metro network—part of Metro Line 9 and Metro Line 2B— are expected to become operational by the end of December.

A segment of Line 9, connecting Dahisar East and Kashigaon, and a section of Line 2B, linking Diamond Garden in Chembur and Mandale in Mankhurd, will be inaugurated by December 31, Hindustan Times reported, citing MMRDA officials.

These sections are part of the initial phase of the two metro lines. The inauguration of the two lines is likely to be done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the report stated.
