How many Florida deputies does it take to get a 600-pound alligator off the road? At least seven, according to a video from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies with the sheriff's office recently "apprehended" an alligator that was cruising along an area roadway on Tuesday, Dec. 2, the agency said in a Facebook post. Sarasota County is located on Florida's west coast, about 70 miles south of Tampa.
It took several seconds and the concerted effort of eight people, one of whom was a "skilled" trapper, to wrangle the 14-foot gator off the ground and into a pickup truck, according to the sheriff's office.
"Get out of the way. Everybody, get out of the way," an official can be heard saying in the video. "Get out of the way. Everybody ... I need ... Serg, I need someone on that leg, right there. Go. Pick it up. Pick it up."
Alligator had 'plans to stay for the holidays,' sheriff's office says
Shortly before its evening stroll and subsequent detainment, the alligator was dormant on a Sarasota County resident's doorstep.
"This massive guest had plans to stay for the holidays, but we had other ideas," the agency said in its Facebook post. "With a wave goodbye, we say, 'See ya later, Alligator!'"
According to the sheriff's office, the alligator, sex unknown, was released into the custody of a local alligator farm.
