An Orange County family is demanding accountability after a 5-year-old girl was left alone in a school van for more than two hours on Tuesday afternoon, leading to an investigation by the sheriff's office.
"This really broke our heart that she had to go through this," said Caneshia Edwards, the girl's aunt.
Edwards is sharing the story in hopes of raising awareness and preventing similar incidents from happening again.
"For everybody to be aware of what happened. So this doesn't happen to their child," she said.
Edwards also noted how much worse the situation could've been with heat playing a factor.
"Because if it was hotter outside, there's no, you never know what could have happened," she said.
The girl's mother plans to enroll her in an Orange County public school next week.
