FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear is reassuring the more than 600,000 Kentuckians who rely on SNAP they won’t lose their benefits again as President Donald Trump’s administration makes new threats to withhold the program's funding.
At a cabinet meeting Tuesday, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the administration would withhold funding to most Democratic-controlled states, including Kentucky, as soon as next week for refusing to provide data requested by the USDA.
That request includes the names and immigration status of all SNAP recipients, which Rollins said is needed to root out fraud, but Beshear argues the federal government isn’t entitled to that information by law.
