Margot Robbie has spoken out on Jacob Elordi's casting in the upcoming adaptation of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights . The actor will play Heathcliff opposite Robbie's Catherine Earnshaw, and Elordi's involvement in particular led to some pushback online owing to the fact his character is described as "dark-skinned" in the 1847 novel.

In a new interview, Robbie urged critics to "just wait" to see Elordi's performance in the film, which is due out early next year.

"I saw him play Heathcliff," the Barbie star told Vogue . “And he is Heathcliff."

She added: "I’d say, just wait. Trust me, you’ll be happy. It’s a character that has this lineage of other great actors who’ve played him, from Laurence Olivier to Richard Burton and Ralph Fiennes to Tom Hardy.
