ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — An Atlanta organization is working to provide free firewood to senior citizens and veterans by chopping trees that have already fallen.

The Atlanta Firewood Bank was created a couple of years ago by James Williams, who is very knowledgeable about trees.

“There are a lot of people who need this wood,” he said.

Williams said there are several benefits to this process, like having access to free firewood for warmth, meaning a possibility for lower electric bills.

And if you have a tree that has naturally fallen in the yard, the organization can come and chop it up, to get it out of the way. Williams emphasized they do not harm any standing trees.
