John Torode is in therapy for “grief” after being sacked from BBC MasterChef in a racism row. Food critic John, 60, was accused of making a racial remark in 2018 or 2019 “so serious” that BBC ’s ex-Director General Tim Davie said he was not prepared to repeat it, though he claimed to have no recollection of the incident.

Now John has admitted in his newsletter that he has sought help with the “unexpected and brutal” change in his life. He wrote: “Therapy has entitled me to no longer ‘be brave’ but instead be real.” John said he has done months of soul-searching and therapy to help him deal with the new reality.
