LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The top cop in Clark County, Indiana is explaining why he plans to recommend firing one of his officers at an upcoming disciplinary hearing.

Sheriff Scottie Maples said two deputies filed a complaint against Sgt. Thomas Higdon, accusing him of not providing proper back up as they searched for a potentially dangerous suspect back in August.

“This decision comes down to one thing: the safety of the men and women who put on a uniform to protect you,” Maples explained in a Facebook post on Thursday, releasing the charging affidavit against Higdon.

On Aug. 24, the deputies responded to a call regarding a suspect in the woods behind a house.

Maples said the man had a history of fighting officers and carrying guns, so the deputies waited for backup.
