AUGUSTA, Maine — A proposed federal rule change could disrupt how hospitals nationwide—including 26 in Maine—access life-saving medications at a discount. Now, Maine health leaders are fighting back in court.

The Maine Hospital Association (MHA) has joined a lawsuit aimed at stopping the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) from implementing changes to the 340B Drug Pricing Program. The program, in place for over 30 years, requires drug manufacturers to sell certain medications to nonprofit and public hospitals at a discounted rate—typically 30% less than the market price.

That discount helps hospitals serve vulnerable populations, especially in rural and underserved areas.
