BANGOR, Maine — The city of Bangor is planning to dismantle a major homeless encampment along railroad tracks near Washington Street and Exchange Street.
City councilors said the plan is to clear the site by Dec. 19.
Multiple people living along the tracks told NEWS CENTER Maine they received permission from the city to set up there. One of them, Rosario Caruso, has been living in the encampment for about three months.
"At first, we were told we could stay here as long as we were working with case management," Caruso said.
The move comes after the then-largest encampment behind Hope House was shut down in February . Now, many people in the area experiencing homelessness are growing frustrated, as they are constantly being moved around.
