JACKSON, Miss. (WLOX) - On Thursday, Mississippi’s high court announced it denied a request for Writ of Certiorari filed by Terrance McNaughton’s defense team, meaning an earlier Court of Appeals decision stands.
That Court of Appeals made their decision in April 2025, upholding McNaughton’s second-degree murder conviction for fatally running over his ex-girlfriend, Nina Cumbest, in a Gautier parking lot in May 2021.
Cumbest fell into a coma as a result of the attack and later died in November 2021. The incident was the third time McNaughton was arrested for domestic violence or aggravated assault towards Cumbest.
McNaughton’s counsel claimed that there was not enough evidence to support his conviction. They also argued that prior examples of domestic abuse by McNaughton towards Cumbest
