CHARLOTTE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Children narrowly escaped injury after their school bus caught fire during an afternoon route in Dickson County.
Meghan Griggs raced from her house to a nearby gas station after receiving multiple calls from her 8-year-old son around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
“My son was calm and said, ‘Don’t freak out, but our bus is on fire’,” Griggs said.
Her children said the bus had just started its afternoon route and was still full of elementary, middle and high school students when her daughter noticed something wrong.
“She told the bus driver, I see smoke, there’s somebody smoking,” Griggs said. “After that, he pulled over, and then they could start smelling rubber, and then the fire just kind of started.”
