Attorneys for Rumeysa Öztürk , the Turkish Tufts University doctoral student whose detention by immigration agents this spring sparked a public outcry , argued Thursday in federal court in Boston that her status in a critical database of international students should be immediately restored to allow her to resume her studies in full.

Öztürk was held for more than six weeks by federal authorities after her arrest by masked agents near the Somerville-Medford campus in March. Her arrest was evidently in retaliation for an opinion article she co-authored in a Tufts student newspaper in support of Palestinians in Gaza.

After her arrest, federal officials said they had revoked Öztürk’s visa days prior. She had not been informed of the decision, her lawyers said.
