A suburban police officer who was paralyzed after being shot in the line of duty nearly 10 years ago in Park Forest has died.

The Park Forest Police Department announced the passing of detective Tim Jones on Thursday morning.

Jones, who was 34 years old, is being remembered by his community as a hero, a man who fought with courage, strength, heart, and resilience.

“We loved Tim. Everyone loved Tim,” said Park Forest Police Chief Brian Ryzski. “He was just an amazing being and I can’t stress that enough.”

For nearly 10 years, those who knew him said he never lost hope or faith. The Park Forest Police Chief told NBC Chicago Jones had grit and determination.

“Loved being a police officer,” he said. “He was so proud to wear the badge.”
