MANSFIELD, Texas — The race is on across North Texas.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup just months away, construction in preparation for tens of thousands of visitors is in the home stretch.
Mansfield is rushing to finish construction on a new 7,500-seat soccer stadium that city officials hope will serve as a team headquarters during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Mayor Michael Avens expecting to have the stadium completed by May 2026.
The stadium, part of the larger $2.5 billion Staybolt Street Entertainment District, represents Mansfield's bid to become what Evans calls "the southern gateway for professional soccer" during the world's most-watched sporting event.
Construction is already well underway, with concrete foundations in place and stands rising on either side of what will event
