After six weeks of community feedback, Portland Public Schools Superintendent Kimberlee Armstrong on Thursday released her final recommendation for the reconfiguration of high school enrollment zones in North and Northeast Portland, in order to boost student numbers at Albina neighborhood’s Jefferson High School.
Armstrong’s proposal is to send almost all children who are zoned for Harriet Tubman and Ockley Green middle schools, Vernon K-8 and Faubion PK-8 on to Jefferson High School, starting in the fall of 2027. That would cover elementary students at Beach, Chief Joseph, Boise-Eliot/Humboldt, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Sabin and Woodlawn schools.
The only exceptions would be for students who began school at either Peninsula Elementary or as part of Beach Elementary’s dual language
