The Boston Red Sox added more depth to their rotation.
The Red Sox have acquired right-hander Johan Oviedo from the Pittsburgh Pirates as part of a five-player trade, Jeff Passan of ESPN reported on Thursday.
Along with Oviedo, Boston acquired prospects Tyler Samaniego and Adonys Guzman, while Pittsburgh received Jhostynxon Garcia and Jesus Travieso.
Oviedo, 27, had a 3.57 ERA in nine starts for the Pirates last season, striking out 42 hitters through 40.1 innings.
He missed the 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Garcia, the centrepiece of the return for the Pirates, delivered strong minor league numbers last season, hitting 21 home runs and 75 RBIs in 114 games across two levels.
