The Red Sox traded one of their top prospects to the Pirates to help boost their rotation as part of a five-player trade Thursday night.
Outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia and pitcher Jesus Travieso were shipped to the Steel City in exchange for right-hander Johan Oviedo and minor leaguers Tyler Samaniego and Adonys Guzman, the Boston Globe’s Tim Healey reported .
Oviedo, 27, became a solid starter for the Pirates after he was picked up at the 2022 trade deadline. He started nine games in 2025, striking out 42 batters and posting a 3.57 ERA over 40 1/3 innings while averaging 95.5 mph on his fastball.
