Volusia County deputies are investigating a scam in which an 85-year-old DeLand woman was deceived into handing over $50,000 after receiving a pop-up message on her laptop instructing her to call for repairs.

Investigators said that when she called, the suspect gained access to her computer and bank account, then claimed to have accidentally deposited $50,000 into her account.

Deputies reported that the woman withdrew $20,000 from her account and handed the money over in a Winn-Dixie parking lot in DeLand.

Another $30,000 was transferred out of her savings account.
