NEW PLYMOUTH, Idaho — A former New Plymouth city clerk and treasurer will serve 15 months in federal prison for stealing over $196,00 from the city, according to U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis.

Danielle Painter, 41, worked as the city clerk from 2012 to 2023. She was responsible for recording and coding credit card charges in the accounting system, issuing electronic credit card payments and retaining credit card statements.

She used city credit cards for unauthorized personal expenses totaling $196,947.87, which she entered as professional services in the city's internal accounting system, according to court records.

In addition to her prison sentence, Painter will have to pay the exact funds back in restitution as ordered by U.S. District Judge Amanda K. Brailsford. She will also
