GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Late Gwinnett police officer Antwan Toney was loved by many in his department and his community.

“One of the things about Officer Toney, he was amazing about community engagement,” said Lisa Jones, police legal advisor at the Gwinnett County Police Department. “He really knew the kids in the area he patrolled. He took time with them.”

His life was cut short when he was shot while on duty in 2018.

“What was very difficult is that his life was taken by an individual who had come through our Gwinnett Juvenile Court system,” Jones said.

The Gwinnett County Police Department teamed up with the Gwinnett Juvenile Court for an effort named ‘Toney’s Program’. Children with gun related charges are assigned by the court. It’s a seven-week course that te
