A writ petition has been filed in the Calcutta High Court seeking an immediate stay on the foundation-stone-laying ceremony of a mosque named “Babri Masjid", scheduled to take place on 6 December 2025 in Beldanga Block I of Murshidabad. The court is expected to hear the matter tomorrow.

The petitioner has asked the court to halt the programme, claiming that the event was announced on social media by Humayun Kabir, the MLA from Bharatpur.

According to the petition, Kabir allegedly posted remarks online that were “derogatory and inflammatory" and could damage communal harmony and disturb public order.

The petitioner also states that several representations were sent to the authorities but no action was taken, leading to the filing of the writ.
