SALT LAKE CITY — A 12-year-old girl was hit and killed while crossing a street in Roosevelt on Wednesday, police said.

The Roosevelt Police Department said the girl was crossing 200 East in a crosswalk at 200 North just before 4 p.m. Investigators believe a car, traveling south on 200 East, ran a red light and struck the girl.

The department said the girl was taken to a nearby hospital and was awaiting transport by helicopter, but she died of her injuries.

The Roosevelt Police Department said it was collaborating with the Utah Highway Patrol to conduct an investigation, and it would submit findings to the Duchesne County Attorney’s Office.
