ROSWELL, N.M. —

A significant firefighting response after flames were spotted at the "base" in south Roswell.

The Roswell Fire Department said a person reported the fire at East Earl Cummings Loop around 7:55 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4.

An RPD spokesperson said the fire destroyed a large commercial building at the Roswell Air Center. Firefighters on scene declared the fire was under control at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, according to Roswell fire.

The Dexter Fire Department and Chaves County Fire and Safety, along with Berrendo Volunteer Fire Department. Crews stayed on scene to address hot spots on Friday morning.

There were no injuries reported.

Streets near the fire were closed to traffic. The public was being asked to avoid the area amid the response.
