BARABOO, Wis. (WKOW) -- Two new dual-language Ho-Chunk highway signs were unveiled during a Thursday ceremony.
Gov. Tony Evers (D-WI), along with Ho-Chunk leadership, attended the ceremony and spoke briefly. Evers said he is committed to ensuring the Ho-Chunk nation, in addition to 11 other federally-recognized tribes, continues to receive financial support.
"Our most recent state budget vetoed a message that would have impacted state funding for tribal communities. Instead, all 11 tribal nations in the state will receive a million dollars each year for the next two years to help support travel," he said.
Meanwhile, Ho-Chunk Nation Vice President Kristin White Eagle emphasized the signage is a reminder of the nation's significant presence and history in Wisconsin.
