CLEVELAND, Ohio — Two former students have sued University School and University Hospitals, alleging they were groomed and sexually abused by a former athletic trainer who is now in prison for related crimes .

Ryan Goughnour, 35, was sentenced in July to three years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted gross sexual imposition, disseminating matter harmful to juveniles and other crimes. He had been contracted through University Hospitals to work at the private all-boys school’s Hunting Valley campus in spring 2022 before he was terminated last December.

According to the charges, the offenses ranged from August 2022 to December 2024 and involved three victims. Prosecutors said Goughnour sent nude photos to students, engaged in sexual acts on video calls and offered drugs used to
