Households could earn MILLIONS by snitching on neighbours in a HMRC tax crackdown. Taxpayers could get millions in cash by snooping to the taxman on friends and neighbours under a new rewards scheme.
HMRC and the Labour Party government could reward peiople with up to 30% of the taxes recovered if they successfully tip them off.
Currently, HMRC only pays discretionary awards based on factors such as the amount of tax recovered and the time saved in investigations. The new scheme would lead to higher rewards for those who snitch, as an incentive for more people to do it, HMRC thinks.
