Older retirees will be handed an extra £422 per month to boost their pension pot thanks to the Department of Work and Pensions ( DWP ). The DWP ‘over 80 pension’ is available to eligible retirees aged 80 and over who get a basic State Pension of £105.70 per week, or have no basic State Pension at all.
To get the full, new state pension of £176.45 per week, men born between 1945 and 1951 usually need 30 qualifying years, or 44 qualifying years if you were born between 1945 and 1951.
Women usually need 30 qualifying years if you were born between 1950 and 1953, or 39 qualifying years if you were born before 1950. Anyone with less than the full number of qualifying NI years will get a basic State Pension of less than £175.45 per week.
